Dog Friendly Vacations Maine – My mother, my sister Alice, and Alice’s dogs, Frannie and Darla, and I recently vacationed in Kennebec, Maine. I know everyone has an idea of their perfect vacation, and mine always involves a bad beach, maybe some dogs.

One of my favorite things is the smell of salty air. Thoughts in the head are very powerful and can fill our immediate memory.
Pet-friendly Maine: Our Favorite Locations
We went to Mother’s Beach, which is open to dogs in the summer before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. and daily from Labor Day to Memorial Day. (Check before you check out to be sure.)
Although none of Alice’s dogs like swimming, they seem to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells. They quenched their thirst at the end of our trip and went up for a treat!
Vita Bone® Artisan Inspired® Dog Treats are one of Franny’s favorite treats! I don’t know if it’s the smell or the taste, but he always runs towards them. This cannot be said for any treatment I have given him. While we were taking these photos, Franny started to faint.

Most Dog Friendly Vacations In New England
In addition to going to the beach, we went to the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge, which was very beautiful. It starts out as a forest walk, but has a nice view of the marsh.
Like many tourist towns, the Kennebunk area is full of great shopping. We are especially excited to see the scalawags! It’s one of the best boutiques I’ve ever seen. (It’s also pet friendly.)
Many restaurants in town offer dog-friendly areas, but we usually eat inside. Since we have a nice rental house, we feel comfortable leaving the girls there when we go out. We treated ourselves to some delicious local homemade ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s. Of course we also gave Darla and Frannie some treats!

Most of the friendly accommodations are hotels and restaurants. However, many hotels and resorts also accept dogs and cats. Keep in mind that most bed and breakfasts do not accept pets, but there are some.
Also, keep in mind that not all home parks are friendly. Just because you have easy access to the outdoors doesn’t mean pets are welcome, although many are.
