Marlows Sands from Pembrokeshire finished fourth with 8.2 points out of ten. The golden beach, with a dramatic cliff backdrop, “is a great photo opportunity with your pup,” the report says.

Cookmere Haven Beach, in East Sussex, completes the top five with a score of 8.06. The pebbles stretch gently beside the white limestone cliffs of the Seven Sisters.

Devon has the most dog-friendly beaches on the list, appearing 22 times in the 148-person ranking.

However, beaches without Google Maps ratings or reviews were excluded from the study. Before calculating the standardized index score, a weighted average is calculated to obtain the overall score.
