Day Trips With Dogs Southern California

Day Trips With Dogs Southern California – Palm Springs, California is located 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley of the Sonoran Desert. A popular resort for years, Palm Springs is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather and, of course, dogs.

Downtown Palm Springs is constantly changing, with new shops, restaurants, hotels and neighborhoods like the Uptown Design District to the north. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals draw attention to desert cities, while January’s Palm Springs International Film Festival draws big names and growing numbers of visitors.

“Greater Palm Springs” includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, LaQuinta, Indio and Coachella. Tourism is a major part of the local economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring these other cities by car. Palm Desert has a great outdoor mall and Indio/Coachella can be great for photography or if you’re going to a party (no dogs).

California — Hike With Your Dog

We’ve visited a lot of dog-friendly places and I’m not saying Palm Springs is the best city we’ve ever visited – I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but there was a sense of acceptance no matter where we went with Ruby, and hopefully that comes through with this comprehensive guide.

Palm Springs weather is pleasant year-round, but winter and early spring are good times to visit. Palm Springs is very special during the winter months, November through January, when the rest of the country is dealing with cold and snowy conditions as Palm Springs puts on a show with sunshine and 65-75 degrees.

If you are visiting Palm Springs with your dog, I would not recommend it after March. Unless your only intention is to be near the pool for the duration of your visit. Summer temperatures are usually around 100℉ and can reach up to 115℉, humidity is less than 10%.

The lifestyle of Palm Springs and the desert ambiance are pleasant and make this city one of my favorite places to visit. I love mid-century modern architecture, so I would be in heaven at a hotel and apartment rental in this area.

If you want to stay in downtown Palm Springs, there are several dog-friendly hotel options on Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. convenient walking distance to shops and restaurants. Check out FIHLA Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows and Saguaro Palm Springs.

If renting a house is your priority (we’re always fans of kitchens and direct access to the outdoors), then head over to AirBnB or VRBO and turn on the pet feature. These are some of the rental properties I have saved on my wish list. The photos below are from our weekend at Mesa Tavira in Joshua Tree. You can find our complete house tour on Instagram.

Palm Springs has always been a dog-friendly town, and with 354 days of sunshine each year, there are plenty of things that will welcome your dog with open arms.

Boozehounds Palm Springs was founded by three people for one simple reason…they loved dogs and dreamed of having a place where people could take their pups and enjoy great food and company. This is a dog friendly restaurant that we went to for two reasons: 1) the dog menu is top notch and offers a variety of foods that take care of common allergies while protein, and 2) they allow dogs in their atrium. for eating, it’s perfect. when visiting in the winter months. We loved eating here for lunch, and you can see the inside of our visit on Instagram.

4 Paws Coffee Co is another dog cafe in Palm Springs that you should check out. We were welcomed with open arms as soon as we walked in the door and the cafe was decorated with dog decorations and merchandise. We enjoyed pastries and coffee in the cafe, while Rue spoiled it with a puppy cup. Proceeds from the cafe help support our mission to restore local amenities and bring great coffee, food and connections to the Palm Springs community.

Moorten Botanical Gardens is a private property designed to share the beauty and rare species of desert plants with all who visit. These legendary desert trees, plants and cacti come from all over the world and range in size from small to giant. It has the world’s first cacti – my favorite part of the garden – and they allow dogs in the garden.

Parking is on the corner opposite the S Palm Canyon Dr entrance. Admission is $5 per person and dogs are free. You can explore this small garden within 30 minutes by taking a leisurely stroll around the property. We spent more time here because I was responsible for photographing the cacti. If you visit during the week, you should be lucky with less crowds.

The only thing about Southern California is all the wind turbine fields. They actually have an official tour in Palm Springs to see them, but I’m not sure if they allow dogs. We decided to check for ourselves.

To find the conditions below, take Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett from I-10. If you are driving north from Indian Canyon, turn left on Garnett and go about 1/4 mile and you will see the parking lot. There is no traffic in this area, as long as you are not blocking the main road, park where you want to shoot.

I recommend going at sunset. The desert is visible at sunset with a cottony sky, but the sun rises early behind the mountains, so make sure you arrive before sunset. There is a fence around the turbines, but this is not noticeable against the background of the mountain in the shade and the surrounding bushes. You just have to accept it.

Although there are restrictions on visiting Joshua Tree National Park with your furry friend, there are still a number of fun things to do when you visit with your dog in the park. We’ve visited Ruby several times and compiled the best Joshua Tree trails for a half-day or full-day visit to the park.

This mid-century community is a gem for lovers of mid-century modern architecture. Almost every home in Indian Canyon is mid-century built with large glass windows, large porches and easy-to-access pools. Because of this, it has a rich architectural history and an incredible and untouched view of the mountains.

20 Pet-friendly Vacation Spots Across America That Your Dog Will Love

You’ve probably seen some of these houses on Instagram with their beautiful woodwork and colorful doors. The best way to enjoy these houses is to park and walk the streets. I especially liked the condos in South Yosemite and South Camino Real.

The dog-friendly trend is really starting to take off in downtown Palm Springs. It is a bustling city with unique shops, restaurants and art galleries. We had a lot of people reach out to us about how they thought Ruby was well behaved and all the owners who visited Ruby wanted to give her pets, water and food. If you follow us on social media, you know that Ruby is an unknown danger, but she soon had to give up her pets.

There’s plenty to do in town, with the main attractions on Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive. I recommend making a loop and matching anything that looks interesting. South Palm Canyon is a bit kitschy, and the northern area is more hip, with recent revivals like the Uptown Design District.

Other must-visit shops on my list included: Ibis Women’s Boutique, Just Good for Palm Springs Souvenirs, Peepas, Out West Trading Co, Covet for Timeless Endless Jewelry, and Destination PSP. Destination PSP featured beautiful mid-century home decor.

Our favorite restaurants downtown were Boozehounds, 1501 Uptown Gastropub, Ice Cream and Shop(pe), and Tac/Quila (get the churro ice cream sandwich).

Aside from shopping and dining in town, you can also check out the unique artworks scattered around, such as the PS ❤️ You and Marilyn Monroe statues pictured above. If you have time, you can use this guide to find them all.

As you can already tell, Palm Springs has a thriving art scene, and besides the big, dark monuments there are plenty of monuments in the city. My favorite is the Palmondo greeting
