We couldn’t make a list of dog campsites and not include Fonty’s Pool. This fantastic location is a local favorite for its fantastic facilities, the titular ‘Fonty’s Pool’ itself and the refurbished caravan park which has now been extended into a spacious little tourist park. They even host weddings on site and it’s not hard to see why, the grounds are stunning and your pet will enjoy exploring the campsite and surroundings (on a lead).
Amenities: Two eat-in kitchens with grill, gas stove, large fireplace (seasonal), renovated toilet with showers, laundry room, newly renovated playground, large pool with snorkels and diving platform.
Pets allowed all year round: No – excluding Christmas holidays and long weekends. They also do not allow pets during the annual truffle festival held in the winter.
Sues Bridge Campground is within walking distance of the Blackwood River and is perfect for those of us who want to escape to the Western Australian bush with our dogs. This unpowered site cannot be reserved and seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and may be busy on weekends and public holidays. Each campsite has its own picnic bench and fire pit for heating and roasting marshmallows.

The kids will be entertained by the shipwreck-themed water park, and you can take a quick stroll into Bunbury town center or take a dip in the sea and see if you can spot the local bottlenose dolphins.

When you search for “pet friendly accommodation” many websites will show RV parks and campgrounds. It’s true; many of them accept dogs and pets on the campsite. However, few (including some on this list) allow them to enter the lodges or cabins on site.
Although most campsites and caravan parks (although not in national parks) allow a dog in your caravan or tent, there are often conditions around dogs at peak times. In short, it is not allowed in many places around Christmas, New Year and Easter. Others extend it to the whole of the January school holidays. In some cases, the only way to find out this information is to call them quickly.

In general, the various pet-friendly sites state the same thing – pet-friendly accommodation options are very popular, so early booking is key.
Seriously, we all know our dogs. Are they barking, whining or just happy old souls? How do they react when you let them go? If you are on a farm or in a game reserve in the countryside, could your dog lose his temper and chase the animals away? Are they generally well behaved and will not disturb other guests? Be honest with yourself and if your beautiful pup isn’t well trained yet, it might be worth considering staying at home!
