With more than three kilometers of sandy beaches in the nearby Port Crescent State Park, you can spend your days paddling in the blue waters, or walk through more than eighteen kilometers of open-plan trees. the sand in a beautiful view of the water.

Dogs are allowed on the beach near the mouth of the Pinnebog River, which is reached by a metal bridge that connects to the trail near the park. Animals must be on a leash and it is important to remember to wash your animals!

One of our favorite parks, Pak’s Backyard, is also in Port Austin! They have a great selection of Michigan craft beer, great food, and a great vibe. They often have live music, so you can enjoy dinner with drinks and water in your bag after a long day at the beach!

A few hours up the shores of Lake Huron, is another favorite of ours, Tawas Point! This dog park is one of the few parks in Michigan that is actually fenced, where dogs can run in a designated area. The park is also dog friendly, so you can bring your dog for a summer weekend!

The Boathouse Beer Co. & Boozery is another great place to dine on the patio with your pet. It’s in the middle of Tawas, they have a lot of food and drinks, and it’s across the street from another friendly little park too!

If you are looking for a unique experience that you can enjoy with your dog in Michigan, Mackinac Island is IT. Go on one of the friendly ships – Star Line or Shepler’s – to cross the islands without boats – it’s a unique experience! Once there, you can explore more than 70 miles of trails and overlooks, eat at one of the many dog-friendly restaurants, and even explore historic Fort Holmes with your dog Many shops in the town welcome four-legged visitors – look for the ‘Dog Welcome’ sign!

Home to the famous Pictured Rocks National Park, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Maniste is on the other side of Northern Michigan, and yes, you can bring your dog! There are several dog-friendly areas in the park, including Sand Point Beach, Munising Falls Trail, Miners Falls Trail, Miners Beach, Lake Superior Overlook and Beach, and Sable Falls Trail and Beach.

While the North Country Scenic Byway is closed to all area/pet parking areas, there are three parking areas in the area, including Little Beaver Lake, Twelvemile Beach, and the Hurricane River Campgrounds that allow dogs

State Parks That Allow Pets

When we visit, we stay right at the Staybridge Inn and Suites, which is located downtown. The rooms are spacious and pet friendly and the dogs love to be petted for a change from our usual vacations. The Staybridge Inn and Suites is a great hotel to find in other cities, and we’ve stayed several times on the road, and it’s always fun!

Visit one of the many waterfalls in the area, and if you’re brave enough, you can go to Dead River Falls, a moderate and short 1.7 mile hike. If you’re looking for a view of the water from above, check out Sugarloaf Mountain or Hogback Mountain, they’re a moderate climb, but worth it once you get to the top. up to!

After a day of hiking, check out Ore Dock Brewing for the dogs. They have a lot of homemade food, and last year when we visited, they even had some amazing seltzers! If you’re lucky, you’ll find Dia De Los Tacos parked outside – these tacos are so good that we drive this food truck wherever it is for the day!

Traverse City is considered one of the smallest cities in the United States, and it lives on. Dogs are also very welcome, and we make sure to visit at least once a year! The Greater Traverse City area is one of Michigan’s premier wine regions, with more than 40 wineries located in the area. Go for a day of wine tasting, and bring your dog to some of our favorites, like Mari Vineyards, Left Foot Charley and Bonobo, where all dog guests are welcome!

If you’re looking for something to eat, check out the Downtown Fillet for some of the best pizza we’ve had, or Little Fleet, the Food Truck Lot. They also have amazing gourmet food in the castle!

Whether you are looking to walk or check out some of the famous blue beaches, Good Harbor Bay Trail and Beach is friendly and will not disappoint! A 2.7 km distance leads to a quiet sandy beach. Dogs with collars and leashes are allowed on the beach, as long as they are clean.

If you’re exploring Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Park, be sure to check out Beulah and its surroundings! Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on some trails during the summer due to the dangerous nature of Lakeshore, but from December 1 to March 31, most trails in the park are accessible.

Pets are allowed at a few quiet beaches each year, including Elberta Beach, which is often less busy than Mother Nature herself, and Peterson Road Beach, known for its spectacular views of the Empire Bluff, Sleeping Bear Point. . , and even South Manitou Island on a clear day.

Pets and eggs are also allowed in many parks near the park, but be sure to check before you go when you visit Sleeping Bear NPS!

One of our favorite places in the area is the Iron Fish Distillery. The property is beautiful and there are many things to do and try, including their own maple syrup, spirit planes, and my favorite, their wood fired pizza!
