Dog Friendly Vacations Southern California

Dog Friendly Vacations Southern California – Palm Springs, California is located about 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley region of the Sonoran Desert. Palm Springs has been known for many years as a popular city for its natural springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather and dog-friendly nature.

Downtown Palm Springs is constantly changing with new shops, restaurants, hotels and neighborhoods, as well as developments to the north, such as the Uptown Design District. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals have drawn attention to the desert cities, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January attracts big names and a growing number of visitors.

“Best of Palm Springs” includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Hot Springs Desert, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella. Tourism has a great contribution to the local economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring the other towns by car. Palm Desert has a great outdoor shopping area and Indio/Coachella can be great for photo shoots or if you’re going to a party (without your dog).

Pet-friendly Vacations: The 34 Best Destinations For 2024

We’ve visited a lot of dog-friendly places and when I say Palm Springs is the most dog-friendly city we’ve been to – I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but no matter where we went with Ruby, it was just welcome, and I hope that comes across in the book.

The weather in Palm Springs is pleasant all year round, but winter and early spring are considered the best times to visit. Palm Springs feels extra special during the winter months of November-January, because while the rest of the country experiences winter and snow, Palm Springs remains on display with sunshine and temperatures of 65-75 degrees.

If you are visiting Palm Springs with your dog, I do not recommend visiting any time after March. Unless your only plan is to stay at the pool for the duration of your trip. Summer temperature is around 100℉ and can reach up to 115℉, humidity less than 10%.

Staying in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert is fun and one of my favorite things to do in the city. I’m a huge fan of mid-century modern architecture and high desert settings, so I’d be in heaven just to jump into this area.

If you want to stay in the heart of Palm Springs, Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. Which is convenient for going to shops and restaurants. Check out ArrIVE Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows, and The Saguaro Palm Springs.

If renting a house is your thing—we’re always fans of the kitchen and the outdoors—then head over to AirBnB or VRBO and host a pet show. Here are some of the rental properties I have saved on my wish list. The photos below were taken when we stayed at Mesa Tavira in Joshua Tree for the weekend. You can find our entire home tour on Instagram.

Palm Springs has always been a dog-friendly town, and with 354 days of sunshine each year, there are plenty of things to do that will welcome your dog with open arms.

Boozehounds Palm Springs was started by three friends for one simple reason…they loved dogs and wanted a place where people could take their kids, enjoy a restaurant or snack and socialize. This is the most dog-friendly restaurant we have been to for two reasons: 1) the dog menu is elite and offers fresh food that meets most people’s protein needs, and 2) dogs are allowed in their atrium to eat it is very good. . When traveling in the winter months. We loved eating here for lunch and you can see the inside on our Instagram tour.

4 Paws Coffee Co is another dog friendly place in Palm Springs that you should check out. When we walked in the door we were greeted with open arms and the cafe had dog decorations and merchandise. We were enjoying our cake and coffee in the cafe with Roo when she broke the cup. A purchase from the cafe supports their efforts to give back to a local garden and further their mission to bring coffee, food and connection to the Palm Springs community.

Moorten Botanical Garden is a private nature reserve designed to share the beauty and amazing diversity of desert plants with everyone who visits. Desert trees, plants and cacti come from all over the world and range in size from small to large. It is the first house in the world – my favorite place in the garden – and it allows the dogs to swim in the garden.

Parking is in the field on the corner across the street from the S Palm Canyon Dr entrance. Entry fee is $5/person and dogs are free. This small garden can be explored in 30 minutes of a leisurely stroll around the house. We spent more time here because I like to take photos in cacti. If you visit during the week, you should be lucky with little or no crowds.

One thing unique about Southern California is all the wind turbine fields. They have an official tour in Palm Springs to go, but I don’t know if they allow dogs. We decided to check it out for ourselves.

To see the background below, take the Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett exit from I-10. If you are driving north on Indian Canyon, turn left on Garnett and go about 1/4 mile and you will see another place to park. There is not much traffic in this area, unless you are on the main road, you have to park wherever you want to turn.

I recommend going at sunset. The desert really shines with cottonwood skies at sunset, but the sun sets quickly behind the mountains, so make sure you arrive before sunset. There are fences around the turbines, but they are not really visible because of the shady mountains and bushes of the area. You just have to accept it.

Although there are limits when it comes to visiting Joshua Tree National Park with your furry friend, there are a number of dog-friendly attractions that allow you to experience different aspects of the park while visiting with your dog. We’ve traveled with Ruby several times and have put together the best Joshua Tree YouTube videos for half-day or full-day tours of the park.

This mid-century neighborhood is a gem for those interested in mid-century modern architecture. Almost all of the homes in Indian Canyon were built in the mid-1900s with large glass windows, wide balconies and private pools. Therefore, it has a rich architectural history and amazing and uninterrupted mountain views.

Five Dog Friendly Attractions In Carlsbad, Ca

You may have seen some of these homes on Instagram with their beautiful views and beautiful front doors. The best way to enjoy the buildings is to park and walk the streets. I especially like the houses in South Yosemite and the Camino Real South.

A dog-friendly feel truly surrounds downtown Palm Springs. It is a beautiful town with unique shops, restaurants and arts and crafts. We had so many people come up to us and tell us what they thought Ruby was like, and the store owner was immediately attracted to Ruby, wanting to give her pets, water and food. If you follow us on social media, you know that Ruby has a strange problem, but she has to be an animal.

There are many things to do downtown, and the main attractions are Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive. I recommend just making a loop and going with whatever looks interesting. South Palm Canyon is a bit kitschy and the northern area is more modern with a recent revival like the Uptown Design District.

Other stores on my list to check out include: Ibis Women’s Store, Palm Springs Finest Gifts, Peepas, Out West Trading Co, Covet for sustainable jewelry and Destination PSP. Destination PSP featured a mid-century home decor.

Dog-friendly Getaways In Bc

Our favorite restaurants in town are Boozehounds, 1501 Uptown Gastropub, Ice Cream and Shop (PE), and Tak/Quila (get the churro ice cream sandwich).

Besides shopping and dining around town, you can also see rare paintings found in the area, such as the PS ❤️ you and Marilyn Monroe statues above. If you have time, you can use this guide to find them all.

As you may already know, Palm Springs has a thriving art scene, and outside of the big, obscure sculptures, the city also has several art galleries. I really like Hello from Palm
