Sydney To Byron Bay: A Relaxed Nsw Road Trip Itinerary
The Blue Mountains are a wilderness area just an hour’s drive from Sydney, and there’s plenty to do here!
The Three Sisters rock formation in Katoomba is the most famous place in the Blue Mountains. Legend has it that these stones represent the three sisters who were turned into stone to protect themselves from future wars, but the witch who cast the spell is cast and cannot be replaced.
To get a better view of the original structure, I recommend following the Three Sisters Walk to Echo Point. Although it’s a little remote in area, the trail is only 0.8 miles (0.5 miles) round trip, so most people can easily complete it in an hour (and maybe half an hour if you’re in a hurry!).
You can visit Wentworth Falls, located 7 km (4.3 miles) outside of Katoomba, and walk up to Fletcher’s Lookout for a great view.

We also think it’s worth a visit to Scenic World, because there are so many fun things to do here that it could be a day trip in itself! Our favorite of all is the Scenic Cableway, which takes you up the Jamison Valley and back, past the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls, Orphan Rock, and Mt Solitary. It’s the highest bike course in the entire Southern Hemisphere and we love the view from here!
If you’re not tall enough, you can slide down the cliff on the Scenic Skyway. It is suspended above the mountains and the forest and is the only cable car that hangs Chris Hemsworth in his Disney + series!
The best way to explore the Blue Mountains on your own on a day trip from Sydney is to hire a car and drive yourself. However, for a special day that you don’t have to plan, you can join a Blue Mountains tour from Sydney.

Port Stephens is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts, which is why we love visiting so much! It is a marina and a popular destination for water sports such as dolphin watching, windsurfing, and kayaking.
You can see many birds here and there are many things to do on the ground. You can relax on the beautiful beaches, visit local farms, or even go 4x4ing or sandboarding at the nearby Stockton Sand Dunes. Port Stephens is a 2.5 hour drive from Sydney. You can get here by public transport by taking the train from Sydney to Newcastle, and then by bus to the city of Port Stephens.

However, if you are going on a day trip it is easier to drive yourself or take a tour. Driving to Port Stephens is easy and having your own car allows you to easily visit many different villages, beaches and farms.

I love the dolphin watching boat included in Port Stephens is known as the Dolphin Capital of Australia because there are over 100 dolphins that live here every year.

The Hunter Valley Wine Region
Sure, it may not be as spectacular and spectacular as the Blue Mountains of its location, but there is still a lot of beauty here. Home to many beautiful and quiet beaches, Aboriginal sites, and great walks.

The Best Day Trips From Sydney
Although close to Sydney, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is not easy to get to or get around by public transport. If you are traveling for a day, it is better to drive because this gives you more time and freedom to explore the park. You have to pay $12 AUD to enter the park but we think it’s worth it.
Alternatively, this tour will take you to the park and Sydney’s best northern beaches. It includes a stop at West Head Lookout and a bush walk through the park to see some important Aboriginal sites. You also visit Palm Beach, the location of the famous Australian soap opera
Royal National Park is the second oldest park in the world! (The first is Yellowstone National Park in the US, if you’re curious).
The reserve covers more than 150 square kilometers (58 square miles) and is home to hidden beaches, Aboriginal writing sites, and crazy cliffs. There are also more ways than you can hold a stick!
Sydney To Brisbane 8 Day Tour
The wedding cake is a must see in the garden. It is a sandstone that looks exactly like a piece of wedding cake on the beach! You can’t stand on it because the rock is fragile, but it’s nice to see.
Wattamolla Beach Restaurant is also worth checking out. It is home to small waterfalls, clean beaches, and lakes. This lake is very cold so it is great for swimming, kayaking, or paddleboarding.
If you’re visiting the park in the winter, be sure to visit Crossing the Sea, which is one of our favorites! It’s 26 kilometers (16 miles) long but you can do part of it, and you might see some whales along the way!
It is easy to drive to the Royal National Park, and you will have to pay $12 AUD per vehicle. You can take a bus from Sydney Central station to Otford Station.
