Cannon Beach and Seaside Beach are among 20 beaches named by a panel of experts. These 20 sites have now been voted on by our readers to find out which one is the best. You can vote for your favorite beach once a day until voting closes on Monday, June 24th at 9:00 AM PDT.

The city follows the Oceanfront Ordinance, which means physical control of your pets must be maintained, although dog leashes are not specifically required. Leave footprints and sand prints in the sand or enjoy a hike while admiring the view from Haystack Rock (in the Goonies). The city center is just as convenient, with many shops and art galleries stocking water bowls on site for dogs that need a quick drink. Nehalem Bay State Park is a great place to hike, with hiking trails and views of the Pacific Ocean and Nehalem River. After a long day of adventure, dine at the San Dune Pub and select dog-friendly hotels and rentals in town.

If you and your dog are adventurous, Yachats may be just the place for your Oregon Coast vacation. The area has many pet-friendly activities and a relaxing landscape that is best explored together. Cape Perpetua offers ocean views and must-see landmarks such as Thor’s Well, Spouting Horn and Devil’s Churn. See the safe remote areas of the hiking trails and capture your trip with a photo of the Cape Perpetua Overlook. Sands Smelt State Park (which has less politics) and the Yachats Farmers Market are also worth a visit if you’re driving down Highway 101.
Florence shares the Oregon Coast with the Siuslaw River and is an hour and fifteen minutes from Eugene. Here, you and your furry friend will have a front row seat to the views and coastal wildlife. While the city’s famous Sea Lions Cave is not dog friendly (except for service dogs), you can see sea lions and the lighthouse at Heceta Head Lighthouse and Sea Lion Beach Lookout. Darlingtonia Regional Natural Area is also a dog-friendly place to spend the day, where you can enjoy a walk through the protected wetlands and botanical gardens. Dine at some of the city’s friendly restaurants, including Bay Street Grille and The House Public House & Brewery.
Tails & Trails: Hiking The Coast With A Dog
Bando’s leash laws require your four-legged friends to stay on a leash, but its sandy beaches, reefs, lagoons and spectacular ocean views are worth the trip. Before you go fishing with Fido, visit Bandon Bait Shop for pet lovers, enjoy shooting next to the Pacific Ocean, check out the Coquille River Lighthouse, or meet furry friends at the Bandon Dog Park. Seven Devils State Park is a favorite for scenic hiking trails and provides access to Agate Beach. Nearby Coos Bay also offers many dog-friendly eateries such as 7 Devils Brewing and High Tide Café. Shake it all off with a long hike at the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead, where dogs can run and play in the sand.
The only thing as famous as the unique Oregon coast is the ice cream. Oceanside is a beach resort in Tillamook, known as the Tillamook Creamery. Bring the family (furry friends included) on an Oregon Coast vacation that’s as sweet to the buds as it is to the eyes. Start with a long walk on the Oregon Scenic Railroad in the quiet and peaceful Rockaway Beach near Garibaldi (padding required) or explore the bodies of water at Oceanside Beach. After a few games of Frisbee on the ocean view and friendly beaches, enjoy dinner (or dessert) at Tillamook Creamery and try to remember the sunset at Cape Lookout State Park. Be sure to visit the Cape Kiwanda Pacific Regional Natural Area to walk through the dunes and see migrating whales.
About 30 minutes from Lincoln City you will find the beautiful coastal town of Newport. Nestled between Yaquina Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Newport is the perfect getaway for those looking for water adventures in a calm, laid-back environment. Agate Beach, South Beach State Park, and Yaquina Bay Lighthouse are great places to play with your child or relax while watching the waves. Pass the Yaquina Head Lighthouse for a beautiful view of the ocean and spot some sea lions along the way.
