The publication ranked the top 20 vacation spots, depending on whether you’re looking for a beach vacation, a family vacation, or a budget trip.
Best Cool Weather Summer Vacations
According to US News, the country’s top summer vacation destination overall is Boston. In its travel guide, US News notes that Boston was home to America’s first great free public library, first subway system, first public school and first public park. For a trip to Boston, USA News recommends visiting modern landmarks like the Paul Revere House, Faneuil Hall, and the Museum of Fine Arts.
U.S. News’ list of top summer vacation spots includes Seacoast, Oregon (22nd), Steamboat Springs, Colorado (33rd), Nashville, Tennessee (44th) and Portland, Oregon (55th). US News calls Seacoast, Oregon “the West Coast’s favorite family home” and says Steamboat Springs is a must-see for travelers.
For family vacations, US News recommends Walt Disney World in Orlando as the best family vacation. In its travel guide, US News notes that Disney World is “specially designed for families.” Second on the US news list is Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Branson, Missouri ranked third on the list as “Family-Friendly Las Vegas.” San Diego, California is fourth on the list, with the Grand Canyon fifth.
The Outer Banks in North Carolina was the No. 1 family beach vacation destination, and Destin, Florida was No. 2. Maui, Hilton Head, South Carolina and Myrtle Beach, North Carolina rounded out the top five rankings for family-friendly beach vacations. ,

Finally, for budget travelers, US News says the Grand Canyon is a budget-friendly destination for summer vacations.
