Depending on how long you spend each night and what area you want to stay in, there are many pet-friendly lodging options in DC. You can stay near National Mall, George Town, Dupont Circle, Capital. There are so many great options! You need to decide whether you want to stay in a dog-friendly hotel or Airbnb.
If you’ve stayed in hotels with your dog, you know that some hotels are really dog-friendly, while others only allow dogs. The difference is how the hotel staff treats your dog. A truly dog-friendly hotel offers dog bowls, treats and beds, and the staff will welcome your dog as part of the family. Some popular dog-friendly hotels, such as the Sofitel, Fairmont Washington, and Four Seasons, do not charge a pet fee. Kempton has many hotels in the area and all dogs, big or small, are allowed free. If you are looking for a dog friendly hotel that is very affordable, I recommend The River Inn. Depending on the hotel, well-behaved pets may be left unattended in rooms. But cleanliness may not serve your room.Â
While staying in Washington DC we stayed at the Watergate Hotel on the Potomac River. The hotel is located in Georgetown within walking distance of the National Mall, monuments, the White House and historic Georgetown. They are dog friendly but there is a pet fee. The rooms are comfortable and the sunset views of the river from the rooftop bar are amazing!

I recommend asking your hotel concierge or searching BringFido.com for dog-friendly restaurants. Some dog-friendly restaurants offer water bowls, yappy watches and special treats for your furry friend. Check each restaurant’s website for up-to-date information and opening hours.
Start your day with breakfast and coffee at Baked & Wired (1052 Thomas Jefferson St. NW), where you can pick up bacon and cheese dog treats for your dog and pastries. Colada Shops (multiple locations) are another great pet-friendly option for Cuban coffee and food.Â
After a day of exploring DC and its many historic monuments, grab a beer and a burger at the Wet Dog Tavern (2100 Vermont Ave. NW). The garden bar area has a heated outdoor area for cooler days and well-behaved dogs are welcome. A dog-friendly German-style beer garden can be found at the Vandgarten, the Dacha Beer Garden or the Bardo. Dacha Beer Garden has multiple locations in Shaw (1600 7th St. NW) and Navy Yard (79 Potomac Ave. SE) where they offer a dog menu with non-alcoholic beer for your guy! They also have a happy hour menu for the public. Bordeaux is located in the Navy Yard near the National Park and has a dog park area where your dog can run.
Hook Hall (3400 Georgia Ave NW) offers a tropical oasis (available for rent) that welcomes dogs with ice cream and happy hour specials.

They also offer drinks and food for people and ice cream for your dog. Bark Social was not available when I visited Washington DC, but I will definitely visit on my next visit. End the day by watching the sunset over the Potomac River and walking your dog on the patio at Farmer Fisher Bakers (3000 K St. NW). You’ll find regionally inspired American cuisine prepared with a “farmer’s eye.” Hence the name. They also offer a buffet-style brunch on weekends.
