New England is famous for its charming towns, beautiful nature and rich history. It consists of six states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, each with its own culture and claim to fame. From mountain peaks to ocean beaches, I’m excited to share my favorite dog-friendly New England adventures!

Halibut Point State Park is a coastal park with a granite quarry, nearly three miles of trails, and beautiful views. There is also a visitor center and a tower that looks like a lighthouse.
Dog Friendly Crediton, Tiverton & Mid Devon
Halibut Point is one of our favorite places in Massachusetts. The path starts in the forest in front of the tower and leads to the mine. We never miss an opportunity to take a photo on the tower before admiring the extraordinary geological features of the mine.
The trail winds around the quarry, providing plenty of opportunities to stop on the rock ledges and admire the scenery.
As the path descends towards the beach, the rocks may pose a challenge for those with mobility problems. But for dogs, they provide great opportunities to hop on rocks, explore splash pads, and enjoy the soothing sounds of crashing waves.

One of New England’s most famous landmarks is the Covered Bridge. Originally developed to protect decks from the harsh New England winters, covered bridges have a unique style.

Some of our covered bridge tours were simple – a regal pose and time to smell the new place. Others take part in hiking or picnicking on the sand or rocks under the bridge.

The Best Things To Do In New England In The Winter
Cape Cod is an island in the Atlantic Ocean in southeastern Massachusetts. It is a popular summer destination known for its laid-back lifestyle, with tourists flocking for its beaches, lighthouses, swimming pools, villages, seafood stands and waterfront restaurants.
We like Cape Cod best in the off-season, when it’s one of the friendliest places in New England. And very less crowded! However, you will find many places that allow pets all year round. Especially in Provincetown, which is located at the top of the peninsula.
Our Cape Cod memories include beaches, lighthouses, and Nixon State Park. But we also visited gardens, windmills and even went shopping with the dogs.
While there are endless beaches to choose from, our favorites are Town Neck Beach with its beautiful boardwalk and Cahoon Hollow Beach, which requires a long walk along the rocks. One aspect of Cape Cod that I love is the sand dunes, a charming and unusual place in New England.

Gillette Castle is our favorite place in Connecticut. In the early 20th century, the estate was once owned by the famous actor William Gillette. Later purchased by the state of Connecticut, the park now surrounds the famous Gillette Castle and includes a visitor center, museum, hiking trails and picnic areas. There are even live theater performances and walking tours for visitors!
We love walking trails overlooking the Connecticut River, wading across ponds, and exploring country bridges.
In addition to admiring the landscapes, we love walking around the castle. The intricate details and fascinating architecture of this feldspar structure will not disappoint you. Although animals are not allowed in the buildings, it seems like every time we visit this park we choose a new thing to admire.
So if you are a fan of the Middle Ages, like river views or enjoy hiking in the forest, this is definitely the place for you!
Dog Friendly Portland, Maine
Wolf Neck Woods State Park covers approximately 250 acres on an island between Casco Bay and the Horasket River. It has diverse ecosystems and is famous for its native osprey that nests on Higgins Island. The park is open year-round and is popular for bird watching, hiking, educational programs, and picnicking.
Wolf’s Neck Woods State Park is the newest addition to our list of places to enjoy time with dogs in New England. Kilometers of trails, greenery among the trees and views of clear water make us love the diversity of this land.
Many trails allow you to approach the water via a sandy beach, steps or rocky outcroppings. But my favorite thing about Wolf Neck Woods is the views of Casco Bay from the beach.
The dramatic colors of the water, almost tropical in places, contrast with the rock formations to create a stunning scene.

If you are a geology enthusiast, a bird watcher or a fan of rocky beaches, this is definitely the place for you!
Dog Mountain is a 150-acre mountain dog shelter in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The owner of the property was the talented artist, furniture maker, sculptor and writer Stephen Hank.
Unfortunately, Hank died at the age of 61. But his vision lives on in the Dog Mountain Canyon Chapel, art gallery and many pet-friendly trails and ponds. They even organize dog-friendly events, including parties and concerts.
Dedicated to our fallen friends, the Dog Chapel is a place of healing for all who have lost a beautiful companion. Photos and notes of dead animals cover the walls in several layers. Every detail of the chapel is stunning, from the dog carvings on the pews to the stained glass windows and statues.

The second thing I love about Dog Mountain is the gallery featuring Haneke art and many other products. The best thing about this mall is that dogs can shop right next to you. All proceeds support Dog Mountain, so please remember to support this wonderful place.
Finally, you won’t want to miss the trails, swimming pools, and other amenities in the area. The trails are simple but scenic, especially in the fall months. There is a beautiful pond here where dogs often walk. You’ll find dog statues, dog paintings decorating fences, and other unique treasures scattered throughout the area. I can promise you’ve never seen anything like this!

Some of our lighthouse tours included views from a distance. Others walked in or near the park. And of course, all of these visits included dozens of photos commemorating our trip and these magnificent buildings.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to Acadia National Park, definitely one of the most beautiful dog-friendly places in New England. The landscape is unique and beautiful, with trees growing from the rocky cliffs and waves crashing on the rocks. The view of the sunrise and sunset adds a magical touch to this impressive scene.
We are far from experts in this park. However, some of our trips included hiking Jordan Basin and visiting Mount Cadillac.
