From campsites to holiday apartments and beach houses, here are my favorite places in the Great Dane in South East Queensland. Being in Brisbane during the Covid restrictions and border closures has been an opportunity for us to travel more locally. And traveling domestically means our Great Dane Pickle is always included in our travel plans. about me

Dog Friendly Places Near Me To Stay

I own Sasha, Great Dane Ma and Arctic Mist. A few years ago, I couldn’t go more than a few months without taking an international vacation. But times have changed, and in recent years we’ve done a lot of local travel with Great Dane Pickles, particularly around south-east Queensland. Bickle unfortunately passed away last year. But we recently welcomed a Great Dane puppy named Pumpkin into our family. He follows in Pickle’s footsteps and accompanies us on many adventures.

Pet-friendly Lodging In Page Valley

So I thought I’d share some of my favorite dog-friendly places to stay in South East Queensland, with links to things to do and stay.

But before we go any further, if you’ve never traveled with your dog before and don’t know where to start, check out my blog

There are plenty of dog-friendly camps all over Australia, and Hip Camp is a good place to start. You can enter the number of pets in your search and the results will only show pet-friendly options

One of my favorite places for dogs is Gordon Country Camp in the Gumbora Valley. It is located in the Cunningham Gap between Aratula and Warwick, just 2 hours drive from Brisbane. We have camped there numerous times and started going there a few years ago (long before the ritual) when it was a cattle ranch with no facilities. It has changed a lot over the years and they now have facilities, campsites and cabins.

Wait Until For Our Favorite Dog-friendly Amenity 🤩 Would You Stay Her…

Although the property and campground area are dog-friendly, dogs are not allowed in the cabin (only on the fenced patio and porch). We never stayed in the cabin for this reason. If you’re out on school/holidays, you’ll probably have a spot along the creek to yourself. However, you need a 4WD vehicle to get to the best camping spots. Gordon Country is accessed via a dirt road and there are sites near the entrance and office that are accessible without a 4WD.

Maybe the dogs are turned off, which is great. But be careful as there are cattle and donkeys roaming freely. We wanted to go there to relax around the campfire, but there are plenty of 4WD trails and walking trails. You can swim in the stream if you don’t mind the cold, and it’s very cold if you take warm clothes in winter!

There are several camping areas on North Stradbroke Island. Rules regarding dogs seem to be constantly changing, so it’s a good idea to check the Stradbroke Island website for the latest information on dog-friendly camping areas and beaches. Stradbroke Island is a 45-minute ferry ride from Cleveland. Public transportation is available on Stradbroke Island, but if you’re bringing your dog, I recommend taking your car on the ferry. Remember, dogs must be muzzled to get off the ferry. Stradbroke Island also has dog friendly holiday homes, see below for more details.

If you’re looking for a vacation home/apartment, Vacation With Dogs is a great site to find dog-friendly accommodations. Each property lists pet-friendly features, whether the facility is fenced, whether dogs are allowed inside, and whether they provide things like dog beds, bowls, and poop bags.

Pet Friendly Places To Stay In St. Augustine, Florida

Make sure you read the terms and conditions, as some places only allow outside or certain size dogs

. If the conditions are not clear, contact the accommodation provider before booking. It’s better to clean up early than to be in trouble in the middle of your vacation!

Make sure the accommodation layout is suitable, such as whether your dog is comfortable using stairs, an elevator, a fenced yard or anywhere your dog can do business. If you’re not sure, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask.

We stayed in a beautiful two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment (Alex’s perfect beach pad) on Alexandra Headland, north of Moululaba on the Sunshine Coast. It is located on the second floor and has stairs to access the apartment. However, it has a large balcony with a beautiful view, so you don’t feel like you’re in an apartment. Dogs are allowed, but not on the furniture or common pool area.

Where To Stay: Dog-friendly Places On The Isle Of Wight

It is only a short walk from the headland and Mooloolaba. Mooloolaba Esplanade has plenty of dog-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating, as well as a sunset market every 1.

Mooloolaba beach is not dog friendly. However, Alexandra Headland Beach is dog-friendly, and there are several other dog-friendly beaches a short distance away.

Noosa Avalon Cottages is situated on 30 acres, 5 minutes from Pomona and 30 minutes from Noosa. The property consists of 5 townhouses, ranging from a 1-bedroom cottage to a 3-bedroom house. They are all dog friendly and allow dogs inside. We stayed in the 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Kangaroo Lodge. The cottage is beautiful and has wonderful accommodations with beautiful views and a huge spa. The bed is small (double), but I still recommend it for a nice quiet weekend.

Some cottages have roofs that are safe for your dog. Kangaroo Lodge has a fenced yard, but the fence is to keep cows out, not dogs. But that’s fine with our Great Danes. With local parks and plenty of wildlife and birds as well as free-roaming livestock, the property is a great place to explore, so you’ll want to keep your dog on a lead.

Our Dog-friendly Day Trip To Mackinac

Pomona is a small town with a few restaurants, cafes and an IGA supermarket. Local dog-friendly market at Stan Topper Park on Saturday mornings. They have lots of local crafts/crafts as well as food stalls.

Toowoomba is Queensland’s largest inland city, and is known as the Garden City. Many visit it to attend the famous flower carnival in spring. It is a very beautiful city with lots of parks and gardens to explore.

We have stayed in Toowoomba a few times. However, my favorite place is the Cozy Cat Cottage in Toowoomba. Beautifully renovated 3 bedroom Queensland cottage. It is one of three original workers’ cottages included on the Heritage Trail. This terraced country house retains all the details and ambience of its traditional charm, but has been renovated to offer modern comforts. Upstairs there are two queen size bedrooms and a loft with two single beds perfect for children. It has a bathroom and a large shower room, an electric fireplace in the living area and a dog kennel on the back porch suitable for small and medium dogs. The backyard is fully fenced, but there are steps from the back deck to access the backyard.

Dogs are allowed inside the cottage, not in carpeted bedrooms or on beds. The bathroom and kitchen were very well equipped and we even had dog treats on arrival! Hosts Janice and Michael were lovely. We would definitely stay there again.

Dog Friendly Frederick

Mudzimba is a quiet little beach town on the Sunshine Coast, close to the Sunshine Coast Airport. Mudjimba is a beautiful park located in the square back from the beach, which is dog friendly. North Shore Dog Beach, south of Mudzimba in Twin Waters, is rated as one of the best off-leash dog beaches on the Sunshine Coast.

Mudzimba Holiday Rentals has many pet friendly accommodation options and Kirsty is great to work with. We stayed in a beautiful 4 bedroom house on the Esplanade across the street from the park. We went with family and had two dogs with us (a Great Dane and the family’s older dog). Dogs are allowed in the house, not on the furniture.

The Esplanade has an excellent Italian restaurant and café with dog-friendly outdoor seating.

Harvey Bay is a must see if you have a boat or love the sea! We went with friends and stayed at ‘The Sandpiper’ a beautiful 4 bedroom house in Craignish just 10 minutes north of central Harvey Bay. Craignish is a quiet residential area, but perfect for us with a huge yard for the kids and pups and enough space to park the boat. The house has everything you need
