Singapore has the attractive position of being a short 1-3 hour flight from most of Southeast Asia. Having lived most of my life in the relatively remote countries of New Zealand and Australia, I always take weekends away from Singapore and add public holidays.

Hoi An has one of the most beautiful old towns in Southeast Asia and is surrounded by lush countryside and tropical beaches. Plus, the Vietnamese food is to die for! It is a 2 hour and 45 minute flight from Singapore to Da Nang Airport. Hoi An is a 45-minute drive from Da Nang airport.

In short: explore the beautiful Old Town, tour the countryside (we love the Sky and Earth Tour), go to the beach, join a cooking class or street food (we love the Hoi An Streets motorcycle tour) , and get dressed.
Don’t forget to try Vietnamese street food and Hoi An’s local specialties! My favorites are the pork baguette (try Banh Mi Queen Hanh), the white rose dumpling, and the crispy crisp (try Miss Lee Cafe). My mouth is watering as I write this. Wash it down with vino at the White Marble Wine Bar as you watch the old town go by.
My favorite part of Hoi An is a short walk or bike ride from Hoi An’s atmospheric old town. I like to be close to the action, but not so close that I can’t sleep through the noise!

Hyatt Regency Da Nang: If you want to stay on the beach, the Hyatt Regency Da Nang Resort & Spa is a luxurious resort option on a quiet white sand beach. Da Nang is a short drive from Hoi An, so it’s a good choice for beachgoers who want to visit the old town for a day or a night or two at the end of a long trip.

Temples, temples and more temples! I’ve seen a lot of temples in my time, and the temples of Angkor rival the most impressive historical structures in Asia. From Singapore to Siem Reap it takes 2 hours and 15 minutes. Easy!
Temples: Of course, the best thing to do in Siem Reap is to visit the beautiful temple complex of Angkor Wat. My favorites are the famous temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom / Bayon and Ta Prohm, the small but beautiful Banteay Srei and the quiet Rolous Group. Check out Preah Khan and Pre Rup as a bonus. The best way to visit the temples is to hire a tuk tuk and feel the hot air (hot humidity) in your hair.
Other activities: After leaving the temples, visit Wat Themy Killing Fields (a small monument with historical information) and the impressive Angkor National Museum, or relax at one of the resorts so beautiful.
Luxury – Shinta Mani: Stay at Shinta Mani Shack for luxury. Shinta Mani is a boutique hotel with chic black and white decor, excellent service and a stunning pool surrounded by tranquil gardens. It’s also a short walk from Pub Street restaurants and an easy tuk-tuk ride to the temples.

Small – Cyclo D’Angkor: Siem Reap has a lot of budget accommodation. If you’re on a budget, check out the Cyclo D’Angkor Boutique Hotel. a small pool and a restaurant. Cyclo D’Angkor is a short tuk-tuk ride from the temples of Angkor Wat and Siem Reap.
Bali is a well thought out tourist destination, but for good reason. It has everything you need for a cool and easy beach holiday and plenty of activities to keep you entertained while at the beach. A direct flight from Singapore to Bali takes 2 hours 40 minutes. There are several daily flights from Singapore to Bali including Jetstar, Singapore Airlines, Scoot, KLM, Air Asia and Garuda Indonesia.
My favorite things to do in Bali are exploring the rice fields of Ubud, visiting a Balinese temple (Uluwatu Temple and Tana Lot are especially beautiful near the sea), eating seafood at Jimbaran Bay, relaxing and people watching on a beautiful day. . on the beaches, and live in a villa.
Bali is also a great place to eat and socialize. In Seminyak, some old favorites are Motel Mexicola, Potato Head Beach Club, Woo Bar at W Hotel, Ku De Ta, or the local warung for satay and nasi goreng.

If you’re up for a challenge (and a fun morning), head to Mount Batur at sunrise. The sunrise is amazing, if you are willing to share it with hundreds of other tourists.
Bali may be an island, but it is huge and it takes hours to go around the island. Traffic in Bali can be horrible and very slow. For a weekend trip to Bali, I choose to go to Seminyak for easy access to the area within an hour from the airport, usually the beach, nightlife and shopping. Some of my favorites:
