Dog Friendly Beaches
Charmouth Beach is surrounded by huge black rocks and the beach itself is mostly foamy. However, at low tide, large areas of sand are exposed, making it a great spot for swimmers. There is a cafe with leisure facilities, beach huts can be rented. It is said to be one of the best places to find fossils, although we had better luck at Monmouth Beach. Charmouth Beach is divided into three sections, each with their own dog restrictions. So pay attention to the road signs.
This small sandy beach is just off the busy promenade in East Lyme Regis. Even though the place is so big, it’s rarely busy because it’s so small. The beach disappears at high tide, but when the water recedes, it’s a great enclosed area for safe off-leash play. Churchcliff beach is my favorite beach because it is so quiet. I went back there almost every day on trips to Dorset and it was my first walk of the day with a coffee in hand. Cobb Gate car park is the nearest car park.
At the other end of Lyme Regis, away from the main sandy beach and promenade, you’ll find East Cliff Beach. Very quiet beach, perfect for a walk with a partner. One of the best places to look for fossils is on the Jurassic coast through cliffs known as spittals. Not much to see and no amenities. But if you’re looking for a quiet spot away from the crowds, look no further than East Cliff Beach. There is parking and easy access to the beach on Charmouth Road.
On the other side of Lyme Regis, beyond the promenade and beach huts, is Monmouth Beach. Surrounded by toolstones, this is another great place to find fossils. As my partner and I were walking along the beach, my travel companion spotted a vulture (“devil’s claws”). Although further away from the main Lyme Regis sandy beach, it is more popular than East Cliff Beach. Parking is available at the Monmouth Beach parking lot.
Everything You Need To Know About Durdle Door Beach
The Durdle Door is a famous stone arch built around 10,000 years ago when seawater eroded the limestone. It now shows where the coast once was, leaving several caves carved by the sea. To get to Durdle Door beach you have to climb a steep path and then down some wooden steps, making the climb back up quite difficult. The right shoes are very important. Durdledoor Holiday Park has a large car park with limited facilities and is a 15 minute walk from the beach.
Lulworth Cove is a dreamy location with calm, deep waters and rocky beaches. It is famous for its unique landscape and abundant wildlife. Just steps away from other famous landmarks including Stair Hole and Durdle Door, The Cove is a great place to explore natural gas vents, caves and arches. After visiting Corfe Castle and Corfe Model Village we visited Lulworth Bay. I was sitting on the beach reading a book, the dog was playing in the sand and my partner was swimming in the ocean. It was a wonderful day and one of the best days of our vacation. There is ample parking, a visitor center and disabled facilities.
