If you do not want to travel to the city center, there are many good examples of other suburbs that are perfect. For breakfast at a cafe or drink at a local pet-friendly grocery store.
If you enjoy nature walks to gravel roads, one of the best places outside of Melbourne is Yu Yangs Park. The local park is less than an hour from the center of Melbourne and dogs are welcome but on a leash.
The Yuyang are named after the local language, which means “mountain in the middle of the plains.” The most popular walk in the park leads to the top of Flinders Peak. There are spectacular views of Melbourne and the Bellarine Peninsula from the top of this granite slab. The 3.5 km walk takes about an hour and there are many steps along the way.
There are many types of short and long roads, including some apartment options. An easy option is the 800-meter trail around Big Rock. Do not miss the short walk to the top of Granite Mountain, which is 100 meters from the parking lot. There are many dining areas in the park.

On a weekend trip from Melbourne, Miss Drew’s Bakery and Dog Cafe on the Mornington Peninsula is a lovely place your child will love. Dog Cafe is located behind Tab Packing House, surrounded by antique shops and is open on Saturdays and Sundays. (Best to double check before opening time.)
The menu has a variety of foods for your dog, from pukechinos to waffles and cookies. Maybe order one of their meals for your dog and enjoy it at one of the many tables. There are also bakeries and toys, and dog birthday cakes can be ordered.
Although there are no easy-to-use options on the menu, you can head across the road to Rattling Red Cafe and buy your own coffee.
St Kilda has long been a day trip destination from Melbourne and a great place to hang out with your piglets. Even if you are not allowed to ride your dog in Luna Park, you can walk along the docks (dogs are allowed) and enjoy the surrounding beach.
North Of Townsville
The nearest beach for dogs of St Kilda is on the west side of the harbor from Pier Road to the Ditch. Here, dogs are allowed to leash at any time of the year. Dogs on the east side of the harbor are only allowed on the beach in winter. Dogs are allowed on the beach at St Kilda West all year round, except in the sensitive mountainous areas and north end of Brooks Pier and St Kilda Pier parking lot.
If you visit St Kilda on Sunday, be sure to visit the stalls along the Esplanade. Also, be sure to take the gray road to visit Chez Misty. French Creperie offers a complete menu for dogs, including crepes and puppies, as well as savory galettes and sweet crepes for humans. At the back there is a sofa for dogs and an outdoor seating area.
Chez Misty is not only a dog pancake shop, they also offer boat rides and lunch activities for the adventurous puppies. You will first enjoy an hour-long paddle boarding lesson with your dog before heading back to Chez Misty for breakfast together.
During the summer of 2022-23, Paddle and Brunch will take place several days a month, including Saturdays and weekdays. Please follow the calendar 2023-24. Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria – Melbourne Gardens is a destination for amazing dogs in the heart of Melbourne. Stray dogs are welcome to walk with you in the garden around the ornamental lake, across the fern trail or through the ‘volcano’.
Another important point to visit the botanical garden is kayaking on the lake. Private road tours usually last 30 minutes and run between September and May. The condo can carry up to six passengers and a well-behaved dog can join you for free. There is even an Instagram account dedicated to dogs on tour!
