Dog Friendly Beaches East Sussex – If you’re dreaming of a beach escape with your dog this summer, our guide to West Sussex’s dog-friendly beaches is exactly what you need. On the south coast, between East Sussex on one side and Hampshire on the other, West Sussex is one of London’s most relaxing coastal areas, with dog-friendly beaches even in summer. This means you can walk your dog to the beach whenever you want, within two hours of London.
At many of the beaches we visited, the blue-green sea glistening in the sun stretched out against the clear blue sky, so you imagined you were abroad! The beaches of West Sussex are generally shallow beaches, but at low tide there are miles of fine sand waiting for pups to play. Honestly, from the dog’s perspective, they don’t care if there’s a current or not – they’re just happy being on an ocean adventure with their humans!

Our Favourite Beaches In East Sussex
We’ve been busy visiting lots of Sussex beaches (one’s got to go) and we’ve taken many factors into account when compiling this list: beaches, dog restrictions, how easy it is to get there from London and others. , Dog friendly facilities nearby. Even though the beach may have dog-friendly facilities, be sure to bring water and even a cooling coat or bandana if you think your dog might need water.
So here are the dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex, along with some important information you need to know to enjoy your dog’s time at the beach.
Tip: When planning your day at the beach, don’t forget to check the tides to find out what you can do on this website – if your puppy is not accustomed to the ocean yet, it is best to go at low tide Is. Littlehampton West Beach is one of the few places in West Sussex with sand dunes (the best we found was dog-friendly Camber Sands in East Sussex). West Beach, next to the River Arun, stretches for miles until you reach Climping (more on this below). Littlehampton has two beaches on either side of the river, east and west. East Beach is for swimming in the summer, and check out West Beach as dogs own the beach for them. You can access the beach by walking past the West Beach Café or following the wooden path through the dunes behind the café (our choice).
5 Dog Friendly Beaches In South Devon
Maybe not as famous as others, but it’s a great beach to visit with your dog because of the wide beach, the cool wooden café on Perch Beach in Lancing Beach and the large green area at the back of the beach where dogs can run . The Perch has a resident dog named Harry, plenty of seating for people and hunters, and a diverse menu for lunch and dinner (dinner available in the summer).
Another popular spot on the beach that we came specifically to visit is a dog friendly café… Bluebird Café. The café has a real beach feel and is colorful and friendly to people and wildlife. You’ll also find some colorful beach huts dug out of the sand – nothing like the West Wittering beach huts, but good for photos.
The quickest beach to reach by train from London, it, like the rest of West Sussex, offers miles of beaches all year round that are dog-friendly. However, on the beach we are always on the lookout for dog-friendly cafes and since there is not a single station on the beach, we recommend taking the train to a stop at Lansing Beach, see #2 above.
If you want to get away from it all then Klimping Beach is the beach to go to. This is the next beach along Littlehampton’s West Beach, but an hour’s walk away it feels quieter and more inaccessible (remember, if you leave your car at Climping, you’ll have to walk back). We also had plenty of swimmers and dog walkers along the beach, so if your dog needs space this is the place to go.
Dog-friendly Beaches In Sussex
Dogs have their own ‘dog car park’ when you arrive, which we think is great! Essentially, this means that when you arrive, dogs can access the car park and beach on the left, while the car park and beach on the right is where dogs must be led. The converted shipping container has plenty of parking and a small café, with plenty of outdoor seating on the lawn.
In terms of dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex, West Wittering Beach is the furthest from London and the hardest to get to by public transport, not included in this guide, but it is on par with West Sussex’s dog-friendly Camber Sands. However, in summer, dogs are not allowed between tunnels 14A and 18, where there are cute beach huts. There are dog-friendly beach huts at the eastern end and plenty of beaches to visit year-round just around the corner. However, in general, the beach is very busy during the summer, so it can be done on a summer weekday or in late summer.

Unlike the sandy shores of Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, Sussex’s beaches are mostly sandy, so you won’t have to deal with wet sandy toes. From Hastings to Bognor Regis, Camber and The Climb, we’ve picked out the dog-friendly beaches we love visiting with our four-legged friends.
There is plenty of sand on the Sussex coast, but Camber Sand is one of the best and dogs love jumping on the yellow sand dunes. Just 10 minutes east of Rye, Camber is one of the best stretches of sand on the south coast, a charming Cinque Port town full of dog-friendly pubs, shops and cafés.
A five-mile long sandy beach with shallow waters, perfect for cooling off after a day in the sun. In the summer months it can be very busy and not all beaches are dog friendly, but there is always a well-signposted section. A visit in the off-season is like a clip from Who Let the Dogs Out, among the dogs running and sitting on the endless flat sands of Camber.
Hastings is a great holiday destination for dogs. Beaches, castles and dog-friendly beaches, including great pooch-friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants, make it the perfect beach holiday for salty sea dogs.

Most beaches allow dogs year-round, but those that do not have good signs. After prom, grab a bag of vinegar chips from the excellent Maggi Fish & Chips and wander down to the upscale, tar-black bars of Fisherman’s Beach. If your furry companion is tired, you can visit the Hastings Miniature Railway where dogs run free.
At the other end of the graduation is Hastings Pier. More modern than many waterfront piers, this is one of the rare dog-friendly spots that hosts live music and art events in the summer. What makes Hastings so special is his amazing dedication to golf. It hosts the Crazy Golf World Championship every year
