Burlington, Vermont is one of New England’s top dog destinations. With great outdoor adventures and a cool, laid-back downtown, Burlington is as much a playground for dogs as it is for their companions. You will find lots of fun things to do with your puppy. Bike the Burlington Greenway along the shores of Lake Champlain, then stop to sample local beer at one of the city’s many dog-friendly breweries. Burlington brewpubs that allow pets include Foam Briers and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery, while places like Switchback Brewing Company allow dogs indoors. Church Street Market, one of New England’s most popular pedestrian (and dog-friendly) malls, offers dog-friendly food and shopping. Pet-friendly, Made in Vermont, a quaint bed and breakfast within walking distance of downtown, provides a comfortable home away from home for you and your dog.

When the dog days of summer roll around, there’s no better place to be with your dog than Cape Cod! With miles of pristine coastline, unspoiled laid-back charm, and countless outdoor activities, Cape Cod is a summer destination for people and dogs alike. You’ll especially enjoy visiting Cape Cod National Seashore. This stretch of sun-kissed sandy beaches and trails allow dogs off-leash even in high season. Then quench your thirst at Provincetown Brewing Company. They’re so dog-friendly (and socially conscious) that the beer garden has a dog house that says “I bite racists.” There are also pet-friendly areas on the Cape. Pamper your pup at the luxurious Chatham Bears Inn or try running it with your pup while camping at Nickerson State Park.

Cape Cod National Seashore is just one of the many reasons to visit Cape Cod with your dog.

For a relaxing coastal getaway with your dog, check out Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Just five miles south of Portland, it’s a great place to get away from it all without the beaten path. At the southern end of Fort Williams State Park, home to Portland’s iconic lighthouses, there’s a large grassy area where dogs can run and play. You certainly can’t visit Maine without trying the local lobster roll, and Bite in Maine has an outdoor food truck in the park with pet-friendly picnic tables. Higgins Beach is a popular spot for pups to splash in the sand and water. After a long day of fun in the sun, unwind at the Inn by the Sea, a luxury beachfront resort that offers pampering to pets and their owners alike.
