Of course, if you’re visiting New York with your dog, there are some popular tourist attractions that you’ll have to skip unless you can leave your dog somewhere.
For starters, theaters will be off limits, whether on or off Broadway. In addition, the popular High Line unfortunately does not allow dogs, partly due to the congested roads. I tried to take my dog but was always told to leave.
A popular option for sightseeing in New York is to cross the Brooklyn Bridge, either to Manhattan or across the East River to Brooklyn. With no rules prohibiting dogs, it’s a fun thing to do with your dog, although I recommend avoiding the more popular times as it can get very crowded.

Dog-friendly places to visit in Central Park include Strawberry Fields, Bow Bridge, Bethesda Fountain, Conservatory Waters, Alice in Wonderland sculpture, and Belvedere Castle.
One of the best collections of street art in New York is the Bushwick Collective in Brooklyn. Located near the Jefferson St. station on the L line, it is easily accessible by subway. The current Bushwick Collective artwork begins on Jefferson St., then continues on Troutman St. to St. Nicholas Ave.
There are many other murals in the area as well. The artwork on the walls is always changing, with new murals added each year in conjunction with the Block Party.

If you’re traveling with a large dog that’s too big to fit in a bag, your best bet is to skip the subway and take taxis and Uber or Lyft instead. Message your driver in advance to check if it’s okay with a dog. They will probably appreciate that your dog has a blanket to sit on.
The official word on eating with your dog in New York City is that non-service dogs are allowed to eat with you on outdoor patios. Although this is at the discretion of the restaurant owner, you must ask. When eating, dogs must be on a leash or in a crate, and of course they cannot eat at the table or share your dishes.
