Lincoln State Park is steeped in history and is home to Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home. It features more than 10 miles of hiking trails, rolling hills and two lakes. Dogs are welcome to explore this state park with you. You can visit the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, a pioneer ranch, the site of Lincoln’s cabin, the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the Twelve Stones Historic Trail. Would you like to stay all day? You can camp at this state park! For one night it is great.
If covered bridges remind you of a famous movie, you know why the state of Iowa is such a special place to visit. Your dog is welcome on many of the covered bridges in this area of Iowa. Madison County is the covered bridge capital of Iowa. The state has the largest collection of covered bridges in one area! Leave the RV at the campground while you explore, as many bridges are accessible via dirt roads.
When I think of one place that has impressed me the most in the six-plus years I’ve been roaming with pets, it’s the base of the Chalk Pyramids in Kansas. Most tourists do not know about this destination, but now the secret is out! Monument Rocks on the western border of Gove County, Kansas. These are a series of large chalk monoliths known as chalk pyramids. Dogs are allowed on a leash and you will feel like you are on another planet. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

We are originally from Florida and love being on the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with Brickle and Digby, I can now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore features miles of sandy beaches and sits above Lake Michigan. As with most areas, there are some beaches where dogs are not allowed. So ask the friendly park staff, get a map or look online. We found Brickle and Digby to be easier to reach than we expected on this beautiful lakefront. However, keep in mind that dogs are not allowed on the mountain for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel as big as Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, Minnesota! This was a very nice stop for us on our trip. Meet the giant statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe The Blue Ox for a spectacular photo opportunity. The roadside attraction has been listed on the M Register of Historic Places since 1988. In 1937, Paul Bannon and his blue ox stand on Lake Bemeji near the Tourist Information Centre. After you’ve taken the best photos of your four-legged friend, head to nearby dog-friendly Itasca State Park. Here you can see the source of the Mississippi, hike and have a picnic!
Named for the large sandstone cave in the park, Indian Cave State Park borders the mighty Missouri River. We generally stay away from big cities on our RV trips because our dogs are older. But we found that Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri offers a great mix of urban and idyllic. The two unique structures in this 91-hectare park will take your breath away. Your dog will enjoy strolling through the green lawns and parklands, watching the horses and carriages go by and relaxing with a picnic. Dogs on leashes can explore the park and walk the Riverfront Trail.

The original buildings were brought to the site from the border villages of North Dakota. If you’re looking for the largest buffalo monument in the world, you’ve found it! Visit this special spot near Frontier Village for a photo. You can not resist!
The park is a beautiful haven for native plants and wildlife, and your dog is welcome to explore the national park’s over 100 miles of trails with you. Why do I care about Cuyahoga Valley National Park? There’s a winery in the park! Yes, a dog friendly winery! After hiking and exploring, sit under the trees at Sarah’s Vineyard with your dog. As with any park, you should check the national park’s pet restrictions before your visit.
Custer State Park is a South Dakota state park and wildlife refuge in Black Hill, South Dakota. Custer State Park is known for its bison herds, scenic drives, historic sites, resorts and campgrounds. For the base, mix all the ingredients together and let it rise in a warm place for an hour. Roll out the dough and spread it on a greased, cast iron or deep pizza pan.
