Cookies are almost everywhere I go, so the first thing I do when choosing a place to eat is to see if they are dog friendly.

Now I know why not all places have dogs. Not everyone cares about their four-legged friends like we do. However, I appreciate it when a place is dog friendly, even if it’s just a place where the dogs can eat lunch and dinner with us.

Packhorse was our pub with my classmates for the big catch. All three of us have dogs, but no kids, so companionship is high on the list. To say we all bring our dogs would make it worse!
Pakhor in Little Longstone is a local favourite. It’s a real country pub, with a warm fire burning in the winter and tables and chairs tucked into random corners of this old building. There is also a hidden space in the garden for other places, including a fireplace.

This pub is perfect for socializing after an afternoon stroll and for celebrating an evening with friends. My friends swear by the pork belly dish, which is always on the menu, but I want to see what specials they have. Their menu is different from your average pub and they sure have great food.
The staff are very friendly and always try to accommodate you even when they are very busy! I recommend writing.
If you are traveling to Kul District and looking for a place to stay for your dogs, there are dog friendly kennels in Kul District.
Another favorite of my friends is the Prince of Wales if that pub is good. Dogs are only allowed in the downstairs ‘pub’ area, although the menu is the same everywhere, so if your dog is with you, you’re downstairs.

There is some kind of restaurant on the top floor. There is also a “living area” under the floor where you can look right into the kitchen. They have a variety of dishes from fish and chips or cheese to other great dishes. I’d love to see new things on the menu, like parsnips and caramelized figs.
They have a range of light bites if you want to pick me up between the walk and the fish and fizz. Friday is all about fish and chips and a glass of fizz.
The Strange Rabbit in Matlock is not in the Peak District, but two miles from the edge of the park. However, it is a popular place for people to stay when visiting the peaks. Amazing Donkey is busy, so I recommend booking on weekends or popular dates.
They don’t log the location of the site, but you can still find listings on some days. They have an extensive menu with a mix of classics like burgers, pizza and pies. If you want to share, they also have a tapas or “small plate” menu. I absolutely love their Open Gyros, but be warned: they are HUGE! Almost too big to share.

It is very dog friendly, dogs are allowed throughout the restaurant and bar. There is also a dog station at the entrance with food, water bowls, blankets and even toys for the dogs to use when visiting.
The Royal Oak is another popular pub where you can book. It’s a drive from most places, although it’s close to the High Peak and the Tissington Trail, so if you like a lot of walking, it’s a great place to stop or end your day. They have a camp.
Everything I ate there was delicious. Good food, generous portions and a good pub. Dogs are allowed in some areas.
I highly recommend the daily shortbread or the sausage and mash trio. I promise I won’t be ashamed either. They also have a good children’s menu.

Dogs are not allowed in the main hotel or restaurant at night, but they are allowed in the bar. It is beautiful, simple and elegant.
I love the menu at Maynard’s. There are many delicious dishes to try. I had chicken last time I was there, but I love the pheasant crown and I know a lot of people enjoy it with chorizo ravioli. Yum!
I highly recommend visiting this place in the summer. They have a large garden with views of the Peak District. They also have live music.

We chose the Devonshire Arms in Hartington by chance after walking around a few weeks ago and loved it. A family friendly pub in the heart of the beautiful village of Hartington.
They are very dog friendly and welcome dirty boots and muddy paws. Good thing we did a very dirty step! Guza quickly crawled under the table and quickly fell asleep.
We love the dessert version, the cake is divine and tastes like a salted caramel brownie. Various local teas and drinks and a roaring fire to keep things cosy.
