Dog Friendly Vacations Oklahoma

We first went to Davis, OK hoping to see Turner Falls. Shortly after paying the entrance fee, we were very disappointed (dirty, large crowds, parking, etc.) and turned right and went back to our cozy cabin.

Broken Bow Cabin Lodging

This got us hunting for other cool things to do in the Chickasaw National Forest with our dogs… and we were pleasantly surprised. First of all, make sure you rent a cozy cabin (we found a great dog-friendly cabin on Airbnb in Sulphur). Once you’ve settled into the cabin, you can head to the Bromide Trail for a scenic trail ride. Then take it easy along the Travertine River and cap off the night with a sunset cruise around Lake Arbuckles.

The Wichita Mountains are home to unique rock climbing, bison crossings, prairie dogs and cute lakeside towns. Just 1.5 hours from Oklahoma City, it’s a great weekend getaway for adventure lovers! Start your weekend trip with a stroll down The Narrows. This is a 2.7 round trip with great views. Since the canyon has large rocks that can be difficult for dogs. We came back a little early.

After your first hike, you can check out 18 other hiking trails, picnic by the lake, check out Prairie Dog Town to see cute animals, even bison and deer! After a day of sightseeing, head to Medicine Park for a dog-friendly dinner at the Riverfront Cafe and a stroll around this charming town. Cap off the night with a sunset hike on Mount Scott.

While I couldn’t find any dog-friendly accommodations in Medicine Park, we found plenty of affordable options in nearby Lawton!

Puff The Magic Cabin

Dallas may not be the most dog-friendly destination, but there are some stops worth visiting!

Start your weekend in Dallas with a visit to Klyde Warren City Park. Here you can borrow some board games, people watch and eat from the many food trucks around. After lunch, take a stroll along the Katy Trail (be sure to stop at the Katy Trail Icehouse for a delicious margarita).

The next day in Dallas, check out one of the city’s Let’s Roam self-guided scavenger hunts. Since you’ve spent a day downtown, I recommend the Deep Ellum Mural Quest! After your treasure hunt, check out Cedar Ridge State Park or Rockledge Park for a hike!

If you’re looking for a good old Texas vibe, Fort Worth is the place for you! Spend the first day wandering the streets of the Fort Worth Stockyards, window shopping, and watching the daily running of the bulls (held daily at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.). You can also enjoy a delicious BBQ on Riscky’s Barbeque’s dog friendly patio…you won’t be disappointed.

After your day at the Stockyards, spend the next morning paddling the Trinity River with Backwoods Paddlesports. After your adventure, head to the Fort Worth Water Gardens for a relaxing picnic with your pooch. End the weekend at the Coyote Drive-in Cinema.

Broken Bow is the perfect getaway for families, couples or individuals looking for a relaxing cabin weekend! With countless cabins to choose from (from rustic luxury to extreme luxury), you may not want to leave.

If you leave the cabin, you can rent a boat on Broken Bow Lake, go horseback riding, zipline, and of course hike! I recommend hiking the Friend Trail Loop (2.5 miles) and the Mountain Lookout Loop (7.9 miles).

Imagine a sanctuary without cell service, natural swimming holes, quiet roads and epic hikes. Sounds perfect… right? If so, head to the Ozark National Forest in northwest Arkansas. Pack real books and all the board games for a relaxing weekend in the woods!

Although there are many hikes to choose from, I recommend going to Whitakers Point (pictured) and Glory Hole Falls. Be sure to ask your airbnb host or other locals about any hidden swimming holes! (We stayed at a rustic cabin near Pettigrew, AR and there was a swimming hole down the road!)

Fans of Joanna and Chip Gaines (Fixer Upper) will enjoy a visit to Waco, TX. They have created a unique place, the Magnolia Market in Siloene. While here you can shop (with your pup), people watch, enjoy food from food trucks, find interesting photos and check out some special events.

If you want to extend your vacation, head 1.5 hours northwest to Glen Rose, TX, where you’ll find Dinosaur Valley State Park. A cool park with some real dinosaur rides and tracks!

Hot Springs National Park is one of the most unique national parks in the United States. It is the entire center and has baths, city tours and fountains. While the actual baths aren’t dog-friendly, they’re nice to look at from the outside, and you’re welcome to bring your pup into The Superior Bathhouse for a cool drink (made from a spring, of course).

Even better than the national park is the beauty that surrounds it, the Ouachita National Forest! Here you can see the beautiful Lake Ouachita State Park, stroll through Garvan Park and find more swimming holes. Read all about the weekend in the Ouachitas here (it’s one of my favorite places!)

Dog Friendly Route 66: Oklahoma To Texas

Summer in Colorado is pure magic! Which probably comes as no surprise! It’s hard not to fall in love with the stunning scenery, diverse cities and endless outdoor activities, I think…

I’m a full-time elementary school teacher with a freelance writing/adventure side of the blog. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up…almost 30 years…:) BUT for now I’m just trying to create the life I want to live.

As much as I love to travel, I also love routine, being at home and sleeping in a comfortable bed. Other people?

Dog Friendly Vacations Oklahoma

You won’t find me living in a van or packing for months. BUT, I love adding to the tedium of everyday life by exploring the US on long weekend road trips! We want to go on vacation with the people we love. That’s why many of us travel with pets. Better than Beavers Bend, Oklahoma already has one of the most pet-friendly destinations in the region.

Living Water Lodge

We’re talking pet-friendly cabins, restaurants, trails, and even lakes and rivers. The photo ops themselves make the woods and waters of southeast Oklahoma an Instagram dream. Imagine this image: A dog standing in a clear river. Dog chasing wood in the lake. Is the dog living the best life? Here are the top five reasons to take your pet on vacation.

Imagine you’re outside on the back deck of your luxury cabin overlooking the morning mist rising from the cool creek nearby. The thousands of pine trees that surround you do their best to delay the sunrise.  But with your dog and a cup of coffee on the porch, you’re ready to enjoy every unplanned minute of the day. It all starts when you check the pet-friendly box in the filter on your cabin finder page. You’ll be so spoiled for choice with pet-friendly cabins that you’ll have trouble narrowing down your options. Choose a secluded cabin in a beautiful location, close to state parks and Broken Bow Lake, or close to the amenities of Hochatown, Broken Bow or Idabel. The only problem you may have is deciding which pet-friendly cabin and location you like best.

Pets are welcome on most Beavers Bend patios. It’s a good idea to double check with the owner first, but usually there isn’t
