A little closer to the city for a weekend getaway in Minneapolis. This central area of lakes and lodges is convenient for weekend kids and squeakers, plus they have a nice dog park by the river. Bonus: Remember the Paul Bunyan Trail we mentioned earlier? You can also catch here!
For great views (especially for a fall weekend getaway!), spend time driving the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway to complete the Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area. This 4,299-acre park is made up of wetlands and forested floodplains. Find dog friendly accommodations right in Jordan or take Hwy 169 to St. Peter, Mankato or New Ulm are being explored.

3. You might be surprised how many pet-friendly Minnesota resorts there are! If you’re not sure, call. There may be additional fees, weight restrictions, or rules about what kind of pet you can bring (not sure if Buddy the Bearded Dragon is welcome), but the safest bet is to ask. My personal favorite is The Red Door Resort. It’s spacious, the staff are friendly and attentive, and there are plenty of sticks to find, leaves to chase, and fresh air to breathe. And my family is always in a good mood when they are there. Red Door Resort has some rules, but mostly it’s just fun!
O Pets are $15 per day at the resorts, but additional cleaning fees may apply if pet policy guidelines are not followed. They would like you to keep pets on the furniture; This includes beds, bunk beds, sofas and chairs. If your pet is used to your furniture (paws up), they may want you to bring a blanket or blanket to put on the furniture. If you do not do this, an additional cleaning service fee is charged here.
