Parvovirus in dogs and panleukopenia in cats are very common and deadly diseases that can be prevented by a simple vaccination of pets. It is estimated that 30% of pet parents do not take their pets to the vet for preventive care each year. GA’s proposed PEThood goal is to vaccinate 3,000 pets through this initiative. In addition to giving away pets that visit their Duluth clinic for free, they are hosting a free community service event on February 26 to help an underserved area in Habersham County.
“Thanks to Petco’s love, we are able to provide these essential vaccines at no cost to pet owners,” said Development Coordinator Lauren Frost. “We urge the public to use this free resource to ensure the health and safety of the community’s animals.”
Vaccines distributed by Petco Love will be the DAPPv canine and HCP feline vaccines and will require a veterinary exam ($15-$25) or surgery at the time of vaccination.
“It’s heartbreaking when an animal contracts or dies from a preventable disease. When unvaccinated animals are brought into overcrowded shelters, these deadly diseases can spread rapidly, causing many deaths, high costs and animal lives that could be saved,” said Susan Kogood, President of Petco Love. “Importantly, these life-saving vaccines can prevent the dangerous spread of the disease.”
